Have you got any dvd editing software at all? DVD rewriters usually come with basic software that will do the job.

What are you trying to copy?
it depend what your are trying to back up. If its your own normal home movies or from media files Nero is good software. If its to make a back up of your original movies then theres many progs about. Let me know what your are trying to backup

i just want to copy my dvd (casino royale) to a blank dvd thats all
DVD X Copy Platinum a great starting place as its simple to use. After you install it use Simple Mode Icon. It tells you to insert film disc then press start. When its read disc it will ask for blank one and then its done. The 1st part which read the original sometimes very rarely will not read disc if its a old movie with lots of scraches. On whole it will copy almost any dvd film old or new. Let me know how you get on.
or use dvdshrink - you'll need nero for it to run off though. Very straight forward,
use dvd shrink and nero. thats it
