Does anyone know how to programme the designated keys and suggestto what end?

I've taken a look at the Logitech website. This states that they no longer ship manuals with their keyboards but you can download them.

Unfortunately, you've not stated which keyboard you're using. If it's the Internet Navigator, the manual is here:
