My Norton yellow shield icon has aquired a bright yellow circle with an exclamation mark inside it. I cannot find out what this is but I guess it's telling me there's a problem because every time I log on I'm told that my updates are more than 30 days old. What is this and what do I need to be doing ?

Just a guess but it possibly needs to be updated. Do you use the internet much, noramlly it would update automatiocally when you connect to the internet but you may have switched this off in the settings. Try double clicking the icon to see if it does anything or offers any advice.
Bad Bobs answer looks about right. Norton Anti Virus will promt you to download updates every 30 days unless you have auto-update switched on. With auto-update every time you connect to the internet the software will check if there are updates available and down load them for you. If you don't have auto-update swithched on you will informed every 30 days that you have not checked for updates. You can perform a manual check or delay the message for another n days. Check the configuration options of your software to see your set up.

Thank you for your answers. To solve the problem I have had to disable the 'realtime protection' option and then re-enable it. Now working fine and no yellow circle.
thanks.
