Hello Pinkcowprint - Have you tried deleting the history/internet files from your PC - this takes up tons of unecessary space which will slow your PC down, to do this go to 'TOOLS' 'Internet OPTIONS' - then click on 'SETTINGS' and 'VIEW FILES' this will then give you an option to delete the history and all the internet files, each time you visit a site on the web it downloads little bits to enable the pc to remember the page if you wish to go back to it....also other annying bits such as useless jpegs, gifs, etc....hope this helps.

The program called Shredder you refer to is a product from mcAfee and it gets rid of a malicious piece of software (trojan) and if you google for CWS Shredder you can get it free.

also go to C drive then WINDOWS folder and then PREFETCH and delete all its contents.

Once your in My Computer right click the C drive and select PROPERTIES and go to TOOLS tab and select DISK DEFRAGMENTOR this will organise your files on the hard drive so that each file has all of its parts close to it on the actual disc itself. This will speed up access times and write times.

If you are worried about your internet speed then test it at

www.speedtest.net

it will tell you how fast your internet speed is.
Dont bother with the deleting the PREFETCH entries that will in fact cause your pc to boot up slower.

It was always a tip i never really found out about until logic turned me into a cynic. A quick google search gave me the answer i thought in the first place.

So forget that tip. all the rest are good to go.
