whats the reason why lcd screens don't have protective glass in front of them,is it to do with heat dissipation?

Maybe to reduce glare.

Why would they need it? There is no significant heat from an LCD.

the idea of glass in front of the screen if poss: would be to stop kids etc from damaging the very fragile covering its got
i came home from a bar last night and asked this question after seeing an lcd screen severely damaged
