Help Please!!

The CD and DVD trays in my computer "box" will not open when I press the eject/close button; neither will they open when clicking on the appropraite drive letter in "My Computer". Result is I cannnot play any DVDs, CDs etc neither can I burn CDs.

Has anyone got a solution to this problem?

There should be tiny pin holes near to the trays - push a pin in and the trays should open.

Thanks Ethel. I can see the holes - on the CD drive just above the eject button and on DVD drive towards the centre. However, no joy with a pin.

Any other ideas please - anyone?

Thanks
Switch your pc off and back on again.

It might work

OK will do Thanks

I may well be back!! LOL!
A pin is usually too thin and short, Try unbending a paper clip and use that, You need to push it fairly hard and the tray will then open.
If it isn't working normally then it may be a problem with the CD drive itself or the power lead has come loose.

gobbledegeek - first class - worked first time many thanks for your help.

As a matter of interest should I get this checked out to stop the jamming? Or is it possible to do it oneself?

Ethel, thank you too for your help.
Depends what you mean by jamming Bigfellah. If the tray is physically stuck then yes something isn't right. There may be a bit of plastic on the fascia that is sticking out too far, or the computer case itself is obstructing the door, or the drive cog on the tray opening gear may be worn. Also check that the screws attaching the drive to the computer case are not too tight, sometimes they can distort the CD drive casing. It it's fairly new I'd ask for a replacement.
