all of a sudden i cannot burn videos cos all burning progs say - no device detected . its as if my computer has lost the burner.

Right-click my computer, and click properties. Click the hardware tab, then the button 'device manager'. Find your dvd burner there -- is there any funny icon next to it like an exclamation or question mark?

in the dvd/cd rom drives is -HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GWA4164B, this was prominent when i opened the page . ive been advised to uninstall then install this.
am i going the right way fo3nix [ or can i call you fo3 ]

can you believe it i cant uninstall or install this even through the troubleshooter. where has it gone

Once you see the drive, right-click it and click uninstall. Then, once uninstalled, there should be a little icon in the menu bar of that window that lets you re-scan your computer for new hardware (or at least it'll say something to that effect when you move your cursor over it).
