I`ve just tried setting up an email account on a laptop i`ve bought him for xmas, copied the pop3 setting etc from my pc. Filled out all the fields correctly? but i`ve just tried to send an email from his to mine and the password box keeps on coming up on the screen (pre filled in with the p/word I assigned to his pc) I keep clicking 'OK' but the box doesn`t close unless I click the X. We`re on BT Broadband if that makes any difference.

Many thanks

As I read it, it's not the PC's software which is asking for a password, it's the e-mail server. You can only access his e-mail account, to send mail, with his e-mail password. This is totally separate to any password you may have set up to use the PC. (With most ISP's, the e-mail password is usually the same as the password used to log on to the internet but this is not always the case).

Yes, from your phrasing ("the p/word I assigned to his pc") it sounds like you are entering a password of your own choice. What you need to enter is his e-mail password as assigned by the ISP - i.e. BT
In Outlook Express goto Tools --> Accounts and highlight the mail account you configured. Click Properties. On the servers tab make sure you have "My server requires authentication" ticked under Outgoing Mail Server. This may be the problem.

Many thanks for your replies, when I initially set up the email on his pc it asked me to enter a p/w which I did (its the same one thats used on start up, the actual box that appears is a mail.btinternet box that has already got a p/w filled out in it. I`ll try the option of authentication and see how I go one.

Thanks folks
