Open up the Favourites by the drop-down from the top line of IE, right-click on any blank portion of the drop-down and select 'Sort by name'
This will organize the favourites into alphabetical order and will be duplicated when opening them via the LH box.

hi dodgy shirt i have tried your suggestion but still cant seem to do it but i am hopeless with computers thanks
Left click once on the site name in Favourites and drag it into an alphabetical order. Takes a bit of time sorting them all initially but once done makes life easy when you put another item into favourites.

thanks i think i,ve got the hang of it now
Having experimented with my own list of "favourites", highlight any one of them and then do a right click. From the resulting menu highlight "sort by name" and left click on it. They will all then be in alphabetical order.
