just fitted a graphics card how do check to see if it is working.also do i connect the monitor to the graphics card

Yes plug your monitor into your graphics card, and as long as you get a picture on you monitor and see if you can get >>highest 32 bit<< in your colour quality settings I think all modern graphics cards should get this OK. If your card isn't working you wont get a picture at all I don't think.
