GPRS,WAP,please help.

I am a complete idiot when it comes to phones, and I need some advice please.

I have a Smart Phone which has Windows Mobile installed, and I need to input settings for GPRS or WAP, or both.In order for me to get my emails and access the internet, do I need both GPRS and WAP set up?.Is it possible to use just one of them, and if so, which is the best to use? I have set up my email account and currently use my wireless Broadband connection to get my emails when I am at home, but I would like to be able to get my emails whilst 'on the move', but I am not sure of the best way to do this.
