My husband has a collection of antique watches, some of which he wishes to sell on ebay. He had a super Minolta SLR but it needs repair. We don't have any fancy photographic equipment, and want to buy a good-quality digital camera to photograph the watches in close-up detail. Any suggestions please?

You don't really need a specialist close up camera. A reasonable quality ordinary digital camera with 3 million+ pixels, a 3 times zoom and Picasa2 (free) is all that is needed. I took a picture of my wrist watch earlier for you using this which you can see at http://tinyurl.com/f2n58 which is more than good enough for ebay. If you would like more info please say (not too good at typing !!)
As Mustafa says, many cameras now can do this. I personally always recommend Casios, such as the Z750, but any cheap little digital camera with some sort of macro facility will suffice.
Quite right. But for the photograph posted I simply put the watch on the desk, switched off the flash, held the camera about 2'6" above the watch, pulled the 3 times zoom until the watch filled the frame and took the picture.
If you have a Flatbed Scanner you can scan small objects such as watches, etc.
They can be used for much more than scanning photos !
(Might save you some money buying a camera !)

Thanks for your replies, folks, especially mustafa - your photo was good, but a little out of focus. People who deal in watches are fussy so-and-so's, but I'll start looking for a camera on your recommendations.
fuji s602 zoom, fuji s20 pro, fuji s7000 are all excellent i own first two they will produce pics similar to your slr but only cost 150 -200 pounds secondhand on e bay.
i love close up pics of flowers etc so think that any of these will easily produce the sort of pic your looking for check the review for them on www.steves-digicams.com

Thanks Obione. Was considering Canon Powershot S3IS, new, but will have a look on ebay for the Fujis. I want to buy the camera as a present, so can't ask hubby!
