urgent response required re burning from PC to a DVD

I have transferred some video footage from my camcorder to my PC. I now need to get it onto a DVD so that it can be played on a DVD player (not a PC).
I just cant get it to work though. I downloaded the most recent version of Windows Media Player (version 10) but it only seems to give the option of saving to CD not DVD. The DVDs that I have are TDK DVD-R 1-16 x speed 4.7GB.
Anyone got any ideas?
I really need to try and get this done in the next hour or so.

have you got a dvd writer on your pc?
have you got nero?
go into nero and select 'make dvd-video' then add video files and follow through menus

or

download winavi and convert files to dvd format, then burn to dvd - you'll still need some sort of dvd-authoring software though.

Ahh - I think I have fallen at the first hurdle! Maybe the damn computer doesn't have a DVD writer on it! How do I check to be sure?

look on the front of the drive

It'll have one of 4 symbols on it

either cd-rom - cd read only drive
or cd-rewritable - cd writing drive
or dvd -rom - dvd read only drive
or dvd rewritable - dvd writing drive

the last one's the only one that's any good

ah cr@p - I don't have it.
At least the problem was that the machine couldn't do it as opposed to me not being able to work it out (?!)

no probs.
you can pick up an internal dvd-writer for about �35 if you need one.

With Pinnacle Studio software, you can output video in different formats including DVD, SVCD, VCD and DVD on CD. The last 3 formats all fit on a CD, and most DVD player should be able to read them. You won't get as good quality, but I've found SVCD to be fine in the past. I don't know what other editing packages output in, but if you can output in SVCD - try giving it a go.

actually, that's a good point. I didn't even think of that because my dvd player wont read anyhting other than DVD format movies.
