Skype - Bad Sound Quality

The sound on my father's Skype connection has recently gone t!ts up. Both sent and recieved is completely fragmented (staccato like), and cannot be understood at either end. Anyone else experienced this and found a solution, tried uninstall, re-install checked settings etc...

The first thing that springs to mind is have you scanned for spyware/ viruses (virii?)/ trojans etc. If something is sucking up your bandwidth, then you're likely to get the symptoms you talk about.
