I'm afraid if you use windows, you can't. It's built-in.

To take the icons off your desktop: you can probably just delete it, or go into the desktop settings (right-click desktop and click properties).

If you goto start -> set program access and defaults, you can change your default browser from IE to soemthing else you may use like firefox.
Never ever remove IE.

You may use a different browser quite happily for months and then you will come across that very important site that only works in IE.
Agee with last answer, leave it and download Mozzilla Firefox, it is much better.
The bad news is that you cannot remove IE without crippling your operating system. The good news is that you can disable IE and move to a different browser.

Before you disable Internet Explorer remember, even though the automatic update feature in Windows XP is not affected Microsoft does require IE in order to manually use their Windows Update website.

Also, disabling IE does not remove it, which means the updates provided by Windows Update will still need to be installed.

Best NOT to do this, but if you HAVE to ...
