Whats with 1.8 GHz (equivalent to 3.2 GHz P4)?????

hey, i've been lookin around the web for a laptop and found that some Intel CPU's claim that a 1.6 or 1.8 is equivalent to more than a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 Processors. There not dual-core so how???

the amount of GHz is in relation to the processor, so a 1.8 could be faster than a 3.0 if they are different processors. Also, remember that the pentium 4 has been around for years now, its old and it is being phased out.

An AMD 1.8 is roughly equialent to a pentium4 2.8 (with AMD it is the number not the GHz that count) but I hardly think that Intel would be advertising that fact! Intel stopped making 1.8 about three years ago.

When referencing to the Laptops' processor chances are that they are desciribing the Intel 'M' version which has been specifically designed for Mobile computing.. Intel branded Celeron, Pentium 4 and Centrino all have an 'M' Series Chip..

In this respect the 'M' series have speeds such as 1.4, 1.8 etc.. but if you were to benchmark them against an equivalent 3.0GHz desktop P4 Northwood or Prescott Chip you would expect similar results..

Thats the reason for the difference.. in simple terms anyway!!
