Hi, Does anyone know how to enlarge the 'half open TCP connection count limitation' on Windows XP SP2? I am trying to watch a video stream through the TVANTS software but I keep getting this error message. If i open the stream through Windows Media Player it does open but keeps stopping and starting which leads me to believe that I need to optimise my network performance. Thanks in advance.

Are you streaming over a Broadband connection ? If so you can optimize the MTU value which may help if there is fragmentation of the TCP packets.

Is there a better explanation of the error message with the s/w - assuming that's where the message originates ? It could mean many things although it tends to suggest number of concurrent TCP sesions.

Thanks for such a quick reply Billy.

Yes - I am streaming over a 4mbps broadband connection.

The message does originate from the s/w - the full text is:

Tvants failed to open the channel with the internal player.
Would you please try the system default media player?
This behaviour is generally caused by the half open TCP connection count limitation of the operating system, typically Windows XP SP2 or Windows 2003 SP1.
We strongly recommend you enlarge this limitation for better network performance and to make the internal player work.
Please visit our website (http://www.tvants.com) for more information. (Website is in Chinese unfortunately!)

First off it is probably worth having a look here ;

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php - specifically at the TCP/IP Optimiser. The documentation is pretty comprehensive and will take you through all sorts of parameters that you can change from the default values.

See how you get on. What is the software package you are using ? Are you on XP SP2 ?

I'll do some more digging around.

Operating system is XP SP2. I will have a look at the TCP Optimiser and let you know how I get on.

No need to look any further Billy - that works a treat now after running the TCP/IP Optimiser. I now have perfectly smooth streams - even through a wireless connection. Many thanks for your help on this mate - really appreciate it.
Great to hear - I've found it can help with the tweaks between different types of broadband as they are all slightly different wrt MTU size etc etc.
PS. I'd be interested to know what wireless router you are running to get good video streaming. I'm about to go that route and have heard of issues with streaming audio video & audio wirelessly. Thanks.

It is a Netgear WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Cable/ADSL Router with 4-port Switch - I bought it on ebay about a month ago for 35. It has been good purchase and I didn't expect to be able to view video streams through it.
hey...i have the same problem. would someone pls tell me how im gonna adjust the settings on the optimiser so that tvants works? thanks a lot really...
