by skills, you mean typing, chaing fonts to bold, things like that? sure, those are transferable.

the only difference really with using the two things is that one may have features the other doesn't, and they will have their features in slightly different places in the menus etc.

yes, absolutely, MS Office just has a thousand functions that you like 95% of people will never ever use. That is how the price is justified
