It's got a wobbly drum. Washes but sticks at last 12 minutes where the spin starts. Got it 14 years ago and this is the first trouble I've had with it. Is it worth repairing? It's a damn good machine so I don't really want to lose it although I know it's probably coming to the end of its life.

The drum detectors that identify an overload also detect an imbalance in the drum after it is drained and ready to spin. A small load will also cause imbalance. Time for a new one I’d say. At that age I doubt it’s worth repairing - even if parts are still available for that model. AO.com are really good.
If you're on a local Facebook group they may have recommendations for a local chap who may be able to help.
Is the drum always "wobbly" labyb? If not are you sure it is not overloaded. Lots of machines have a cut-out if they sense an overload and will not go to spin in case of catastrophic damage.
Another point. Is it draining after a rinse and wash? If it is not draining it will not spin. A blocked filter can cause this. I take it that you have given the door a good belt in case the latch did not fully engage with all sensors?

Thanks everyone but it's spinning happily away again. There was only a half load in, perhaps that wasn't enough;-) Whether it will do it next time is another story but OK for now.
The bearings need replacing. Several websites put the cost of doing so at between £100 and £200. This site examines whether it's worth doing so or better to buy a new machine:

I know absolutely nothing about washing machines. (I don't even own one). However my own view is that it would be all to easy to spend a couple of hundred quid on fixing one fault, only for a different one to appear very soon afterwards (as might well happen with a 14-year-old machine). If I was in your position, I'd be looking for a new machine.

AO.com has been much-praised here on AB. Their budget washing machines start from £249:

I recommend Euronics - they are local independent dealers with the purchasing power of the big boys.
Togo could be right – I once tried to machine wash a small rug. It wrapped itself up, positioned at a small area of the drum wall. What with the added weight of the water in the rug, the machine detected a significant imbalance in the drum and displayed a fault code.
My machine sometimes gets unbalanced with a small load.
Mine too. I put a question on here years ago about the machine not spinning and someone told me that was the cause.

(I don't) to read the manufactures recommendations we should find that there is a recommended load weight including upper and lower weights.

I've spent ages reading Chris's links and still unsure what to do. Because of my age and illness I really don't want to buy a new machine if I can help it. Then I read the following posts and that has given me hope. I did take the sopping wet washing out of the machine and then spread it evenly in the drum. So I think I will give it another go and see what happens. If it fails again I'll replace it. My choice will be a machine that fits into the available space. Thank you again you're all very helpful.
