How do you get a digital TV to recognise your DVD recorder? Unlike an analogue TV, I can't seem to 'tune' a channel to it, like AV1 for example. Even when connected, and the TV 're'-autotuned, it won't find it...

Any ideas?

My LG recorder has an AV button which selects the input to use for recording....Tuner, AV1-4 or DV IN......you don't tune in individual channels as you have found out....look for a similar button on yiur DVD recorder hand set and try that, it will be on one of those I feel sure....... then change channels with your digital handset..............you will only be able to record the digital channel that you are viewing .........

Thanks, I'll have a look. But what if I want to record something whilst watching another channel like you do with a video recorder? Please don't tell me you can only record what you're watching...?
NO............you will not be able to record one digital channel whilst viewing another digital channel at the same time. There are dual tuner digital receivers which can do this or you can connect up in such a way that the analogue signal is still available but..........Sorry, NO............you will not be able to record one digital channel and watch another Digital channel at the same time.............commoner.

LOL...maybe now somebody will say I am wrong..........

hi there,

commoner you are quite right.

you can only record the channel you are watching.

eg. the channel you have on your freeview box.

My husband and I have recently bought a DVD recorder and we have a Video recorder.

I have set the DVD so that I can record from the freeview or the T.V whichever I choose and then we can watch the T.V and record another channel on freeview.

I have set also the video recorder up so that we can record one programme from the freeview and one from the normal T.V and also watch another channel on the T.V.

so you can watch 3 things at the same time.

I have recently done this to my parents new 37 inch lcd tv and new DVD recorder etc with freeview box.

If you don't know what you are doing, like my parents you would be baffled.

Fortunately I am very good with technology.

But you are quite right commoner in what you have said.

clare louise.

....MORELLO .....here is a link which will help you to connect the various machines to get the best result.........clarelouise has managed to get them working just fine by the sound of things..........When they finally turn off the analogue signal of course, you won't be able to do this and will need a dual tuner set top box. http://www.sonydigital-link.com/Tutorials/TV/Diagrams/sh owdiag.asp?l=en&d=2#3

......claire louise I think even you can't actually WATCH three things at ones......Maybe watch one and record two others for later <G>.........commoner

Thanks to both of you. The link has useful pictures, except my digital box is incorporated in the TV. I've got a feeling I've just spent a lot of money on kit which allows me to do less than with a video (which is going to go down well with the missus!). I'll have to have a go tonight. clairelouise - you don't fancy coming round do you?!
What OUTPUTS do you have on the TV? Maybe they can be connected to you DVD recorder?
