My PC was running well, until two days ago when Windows did an update.
Now, all the websites keep freezing and from time to time an error message appears sayng the computer has to restart.
Is there anything I can do to fix things, or do I need to call in a technician?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Can you roll back the update ?
In the Windows search field, start typing 'Command Prompt'.

When it appears up above, RIGHT-click on it.

Select 'Run as administrator'.

In the new window that appears, type this:
sfc /scannow

Hit 'Enter'.

That will examine all of the Windows system files and correct any errors for you. (I suggest restarting your machine after doing it).

If that doesn't help, start typing 'updates' in the Windows search box. When 'Check for updates' appears above it, click on it.

Click on 'View update history'.

Click on 'Uninstall updates'.

Click on the most recent update.

Click on 'Uninstall'.

(If there were two simultaneous updates, uninstall both of them).

Restart your PC.

Thank you so much for the detailed advice.
I did try uninstalling the update to get back to the pre-existing condition but it didn't help.
I'll give Buenchico's advice a try.
Like Peter Pedant, I too dread the updates - they often bring trouble.
