Everything is means tested and depends on the total income of you and your husband. As well as Income Support you could try claiming Tax Credits (0845 300 3900). Also Council Tax Benefit and, if you are renting your home, Housing Benefit. Both of these from your Local Authority.
Just looked up Income Support rules. If your husband is working full time (defined as more than 24 hours per week) you will not be entitled to Income Support. But you should still go ahead with claiming the other benefits because there is no working hours limit on them.

Don't know about allowances; but looking at the other end of the problem, have you tried writing down every penny you spend for a month? It can be quite amazing when you see how much little things add up.

For example, buying a sandwich every day at work could be costing you ten or more times the cost of the ingredients.
