I am a 3D visualiser and need a laptop for advanced graphics (rendering and animation). I have up until now depended on my employers to supply both hardware and software but am thinking of going freelance. What specs should I be looking for?

For advanced graphics I wouldn't go for laptop at all. They are much slower than desktops. Even if you do go for a laptop, it would need to be top of the range to handle what you want it to do.

Thanks OBonio. I know I really should get a desktop but the problem is I will definitely be needing a laptop and I can't afford both. So it will just have to be top of the range like you say. Approximately how much would I be looking to spend? Do you know what secific specs would I need to look out for e.g type of graphics card etc.?
My friend works with 3D Studio Max and he purchased a laptop from http://www.ajp.co.uk/

He uses it in place of a desktop day in day out and has no problems.

It also runs Avid Express at the same time as 3DSM.
