sometimes the blue rectangle next to the green start one on my taskbar will keep flashing orange-what is it trying to tell me?

The blue rectangles on your taskbar indicate which windows are open (even if minimized) on your desktop and whenever a "hidden" window is updated the corresponding blue rectangle will flash orange (default is 3 times) to let you know the window is now ready for viewing.
