We all have much to learn, even about ourselves.
cassa333 - //I thought queer was an insult these days? //

It is the habit of some oppressed minorities to 're-take' a label that is used as an offensive comment, and thereby take the sting out of it.

Thus, one gay person may refer to another gay person as 'queer', but if a straight person does, it, it is likely to be seen as an insult.

A similar situation occurs with the 'n' word - use of it as a term of affection among young black men is common, if a white man says it, he can look forward to a stiff talking-to!
For once I agree with AH. It seems to be, 'I can call me that but you can't'.
jackdaw - it works for oppressed people - take the sting out of their insult and use it to exclude them - double result.
I think it's accepted in America and Canada. Not so much here!
