Here's an annoying issue - my phone is over £40 in credit. Thought it had gone quiet...turns out I couldn't recieve or make calls as O2 switched the account off until I topped it up.
Been with them for years, never happened before. Anyone else expereinced similar....what's changed?

Did you not use it for ages ?
You know what to do, contact O2 and give them a piece of your mind. You will get the money back, I've been in the same boat (many many years ago) and I got back my money. Just do it from an O2 phone (any o2 phone, call 202), that way you won't get charged.

I'm not glued to it OG but I certainly use it and family had been texting me. I will indeed give o2 an ear-bashing Dizmo.
yes it happened to my hubby he does not use it much. I phoned them up and they switched it back on so still had his credit. He was told he had to make or receive a call within a certain time (forget what it was) or they cancel it.
Bought a phone for an elderly friend recently, Vodaphone advised us to tell him to use it at least once every two months to keep the service active. Otherwise they might assume it had been stolen or lost and reallocate the number.

I use my phone 'normally' and download data.
45 mins on O2 customer 'care' chat going round in circles.
15 mins on customer care phone before chummy (with supervisor audibly giving script in background) said basically your sim card is more than 3 years old so tough taters.
Absolute rubbish service, apparently above all consumer protection laws, and one for avoiding in the future.
The age of the SIM card makes no different. You are paying for an account not a SIM card. I have an O2 account and not had issues. I think you need to try again and ask for someone who has an IQ with greater than one digit.
Mosaic: GET back on to O2 and demand your money back, sim card too old my ar*e.
I've had similar problems in the past and finally got the answer that I need to top-up every 33 months or get cut-off even with credit left (I am a low user!). Don't know why it's 33 months and can't find any reference to it anywhere but it solved the problem.
