Nigel Farage must be like a dog with two tails right now
Just declare bankruptcy and the EU will send you all kinds of money and also foreign workers to assist you with your problems:)

stuey I love that scenario!
The £ would end up worthless. The only reason that they didn't do that to Greece was because they were in the Euro and that would mean Germany also being penalised by a devalued currency. So everything imported into the UK would be more expensive. Much more expensive.

Bring it on! I get paid in Euro from Dublin so in real terms I would have a big fat pay rise.
//We don't pay the fine, do they throw us out of EU?//

I wish!
Caran This big bill has been accumulating over a few years and the PM and particularly the Chancellor should (and must have) known about it.

A bit late in the day to be questioning it methinks.
Have you people finished paying off "Lend Lease" yet?:)
Lend Lease?

You're going back a bit!
I know, but it is Sunday evening and time for some humor spelled with a "u":)
I wasn't aware that Canadians adopted American spelling. I always thought they favoured the British version.
You mean without the "u" Stuey !! :-)
The spelling is sort of hit and miss, hither and yon. I prefer the British spelling, and so do MOST of the media. However certain words I do use the American spelling such as "realize", "jail", and "curb" to name three. The main thing is we do manage to communicate.
In fact, sometimes I switch back and forth between the two; therefore, I'm bilingual:)
Maist o the time Stuey. :-)
Realize and jail are perfectly acceptable in English. As for curb, it depends what you mean. If you mean to prevent or cut back, the curb is correct. If you mean the edge of the pavement (sidewalk) then it is kerb.
I thought you would be tri -lingual Stuey. American,English and French. !!
You really should be paying attention to your EU debt rather than engaging in frivolous conversations regarding the continental divide betwixt spelling:)
No francays parloo with me!!
Any chance the Canadian treasury could help out the mother country?
Just get the government to apply for an Amigo Loan. Everyone in the country can be put down as the guarantor.
