I'm struggling to get my bluetooth dongle to operate via the widcomm software I received with the device.  The problem seems to be that my windows bluetooth application wants to control the dongle and it just isn't as good as the widcomm (I know this because I had widcomm running on a different machine).  I've tried all sorts of installation configurations.  Running on xphomeSP2.  Think in need to disable the windows bluetooth software but I don't know how.

I had this trouble before but solved it using some really good instructions I found. Unfortunately, I can't find them now, but I found ones that give all the pertinent information without any fancy pictures. Have a look at http://tinyurl.com/clyxo for further info. Pay particular attention to where it says to click Cancel instead of OK. Hope it helps, let us know if it doesn't.
on the installation CD, it should have come with some instructions. print them out, read the bit for your operating system, and follow them precisely.

it works then. the slightest thing, like pressing cancel instead of OK, or vice versa, and it all goes wrong.

but before you try that, you may be wise unplugging the dongle and uninstalling all drivers and everything you've already attempted to install.

Solved it! Thanx for the answers! Ralph, those directions were spot on.  What I needed was from Device Manager onwards. :-D
