I currently use my own formed "Cloud" kind of. IN my web router it has a USB slot so i can access the drive on all PC's which allows ease. I use a 32gb USB stick 2.0.

The thing im worried about is the fact after a few hours of the stick being in, the heat gets very hot. I am not sure if this could cause a fire?

Or would it be okay for me to leave it in?

Thanks

The TV programme "Fake Britain" had a feature about fake USB memory sticks which are specially wired to give a false capacity reading. They can be a fire risk.

Try copying 4, then 8 then 16 then 31+ Gb of data from computer 1 to stick, then from the stick to computer 2 and seeing if any data goes missing. A fake might fail at the 4 or 8 stage.

You can check the packaging/instruction leaflet or manufacturer website for maximum operating temperature.

Given the time of year:-
What is the temperature in the room?
Is the router/stick sitting in full sunlight?
How hot does the router get without the USB in place? (ie might the router be dumping heat into the stick?)

Buenchico, any thoughts on this, while we wait?

I got one of those fake ones from a Hong Kong seller at eBay once. eBay ruled in their favour because they didn't give a darn, and I was the loser.

But it may not be the issue, it may be that there is a "genuine" error with the flash drive. Probably worth keeping an eye on it, and I'd be inclined to replace it just in case.
