The stick was used to record and playback programmes from a Smart Television until it suddenly stopped working - the TV message said it (the USB) could not be found.
Is there a test that could be done using a laptop to determine whether the USB is ok.

Plug it in and see if it works!
Well the first test is to plug it into a USB port on the laptop to see if it's recognised! (If 'Autoplay' doesn't work, try going to 'Computer', from the Start menu, to see if it's there).

If your laptop can see it, right click on its icon and select 'Properties' and then 'Tools', so that you can run the error-checking program.

I did that BUENCHICO.
It recognises the USB as ' Removable Disk F:
Error checking - Check now: ' windows cannot access the disk '
Sorry, but I reckon it's dead then.
PS: You could try formatting the pen drive. (Right-click on its icon and select Format). That would obviously erase any programmes already on it but it might render it usable again. (If you get an 'unable to format' message, or similar, then it really would seem to be dead).

Thanks again BUENCHICO, your help is appreciated.
Yep. That sounds the sort of scenario I've wasted time trying to solve in vain, in the past.
