Connecting Up A Jvc Hr_Xv3Ek Vcr/dvd Combie Player To Tv

Hi, Please can anyone help me. I have done all my connections to the tv and player but when i do an auto scan for channels it comes up no signal. I must be overlooking something. Do i have to find an empty station on my tv to tune to. Answer must be simple as i am not technically minded.

does it have digital channels or freeview tuner added on because it looks like a very old set according to one on ebay
if it has not got digital channels then you want get any
