I have somehow lost the bottom of my main desktop page (all the bottom line of icons) There is just a large gap where they used to be! How can I restore them please?

Think it's somehow "rolled round" and gone down off the edge of the page.
Hover the cursor at the bottom of the screen and drag up
Assuming this is the taskbar, move the mouse to the very bottom of screen - does it re-appear? If so right click on it whilst it is visible and select Properties, then untick the auto-hide option, followed by apply or ok
If you leave the cursor at the bottom does it re-appear? If you press the windows button on your keyboard does it re-appear?

If it does then you have enabled Autohide. Right click on Windows button and select 'properties' and take tick out of Auto Hide click Apply and OK.

The taskbar is still showing - the line with the Start button. Its all the icons (saved files) which have disappeared from the bottom of the main desktop page - I have a lot stored on there.

I also have a mysterious green square just appeared in the taskbar near the date and time- help!

When I press the Windows key I get a drop down menu.

I can see what has happened - all the icons from along the bottom are still on the desktop page but scattered around in different places, all squashed together!
if you right-click on a blank area of the desktop you might get a "view" or "sort" option with an "align to grid" sub-option.

Well suggested jno - "align to grid" worked! Many thanks for sorting me out - I don't know how it happened but all is well again now! :)
