In Add/Remove Progs I have loads of Microsoft updates going back a few years. Can I safely delete them?

No, because if you remove it, you will have to re-install it again via Windows update. Strong possibility you may make Windows not work properly either.

Thanks for that S Alice. The reason I asked is that when doing a Disc Clean Up I came across this

''Make sure to check the box next to Windows Update Cleanup and any other files you would like to clean (honestly, all of them) and click OK.''

I thought that once I had allowed the updates they were automatically installed. Any subsequent updates would replace them.
There are a lot of temporary files and installation files left over after an update has been 'applied'

These files can be removed using the 'disc cleanup' utility in Windows. This will not remove the update, just the dross left behind.
