Htc One Mini Won't Charge

Does anyone know why my HTC one mini phone only charges when the phone is switched off and when you hold it in a certain way?

It doesn't charge at all when the phone is on. It worked and charged normally for the first 2 months I had it. Its also brand new as a similar thing happened to my previous phone, which funnily enough was a HTC one mini. That one totally died on me so I claimed on my insurance and received a brand new one.

I know I can contact htc , which I have already done and I'm awaiting a response. Just thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone knew why it was acting weird.
