I have updated my ipad to ios7 but safari is running slow now. I have googled this and found its quite common and the best advice is to restore to factory settings.

If i do this (assuming. I can work out how) will i lose all my favourites and my apps? If so I might prefer put up with the slowness. Unless anyone has any other ideas.

Why don't you download a different browser and try it, one I know of is called Opera.
Try Google Chrome.
If all you apps are on your iTunes after factory resetting you could just sync your ipad again. To reset to factory setting you will find it in settings, general, reset.

I've heard that anything other than safari on an ipad is even slower, (apple see to it that you stick to their product) Do either of you use these browsers on ipad4?
I use safari. Another thought have you cleared your history on safari. You can do this on the book icon that is now on the top right hand side or go into settings, safari and then three quarters the away down the right Hand side 'Clear History'. Or just turning off and turning on again.
It only takes a minute to download an app so just try it and delete it if no joy.
