My Vaio has a free trial of McAfree internet security which I find intrusive and nagging me to get the full version. If I where to un install it am I right in thinking I need security essentials(windows defender to me)and a separate anti virus(AVG free 2013) and of course Malware bytes.
Am I forgetting anything?

If you have Windows 8 this already has Windows Defender/ MSE on it (though they will be turned off if McAfee is on the PC).

I think if you uninstall McAfee then Defender/MSE switches back on.

For earlier release of Windows (7 & Vista & XP) you need to make sure you dont have two anti virus products installed.

So dont have AVG Free 2013 AND Microsoft Secuirty Essentials as they are both anti virus products so may conflict.
p.s. It does help us if you tell us what release of Windows you have installed as each version of Windows is different and has different requirements.

I'm sorry,VHG you are quite right.I keep forgetting that people cannot see what I can.

It's all in the detail

Thanks for your advice though,I did have both anti virus going at the same time a few weeks ago(before things got ugly and I had to do a full restore)so maybe that is why it was playing up now and again.

Sorry again,I'll try and remember more detail in future :(
