I have recently purchased a copy of Floorplan 3d v.6 by IMSI.

You can import new 3d models into the program from another source, but they must be saved in 3ds format first. I have searched the net for software to create 3d models in 3ds format, but can't find any yet. I have tried four different software packages so far, the last being 3d studio max 7, and none seem to save in the correct format.

Does anyone know any software packages out there that will allow me to create a 3d model in the 3ds format?

3ds was the original format of 3dstudio. It is still widely used to transfer files between 3d packages. 3dsMax will "export" as 3ds, rather than "save" as such.
