This PC, a Toshiba 'satellite' using Windows 8, has the annoying habit of the cursor freezing on one spot and refusing to budge. What's the cure, short of turning the whole thing off and hoping the cursor moves on restart?

At those times does anything else work ? i.e. can you continue to type into a document ?

Just wondering if the processor was simply too busy at those times to acknowledge the mouse movement.

Yes, OG, curiously, it allowed me to continue typing as normal, certainly once, but not to do anything else
Ok that's spoilt that theory. Have to sleep on it.

I suppose the next question is do other input devices, mice/trackballs/whatever allow movement, i.e. is it just your usual mouse ?
One thing that did occur to me. If you go to the "system" screen (control panel, system, system) you could delete the mouse drivers and then your PC should detect new hardware and reinstall them again. If it doesn't immediately you could unplug then replug the mouse, or worst comes to worst, start a 'search for new hardware'. Might also pay you to check on the web that you have the latest (Win 8 compatible) drivers for it.
