To turn off:
Hover your mouse in the bottom right corner so the charms appear, click 'settings' - 'power' - 'shut down'.
I can still right click and save an image to desktop.
Lol, my daughter has a new laptop with windows 8, I can't stand it, usually I get to grips with new stuff fairly quickly, but this is crap.
I LOVE Windows 8.
To turn off, just move the curser to the bottom right corner of the screen and leave it for a second, four icons should appear on the right of the screen, select the cog/settings at the bottom, then power and finally shut down.

Thanks everyone, I agree rocky I can usually manage with a bit of help from AB but this is driving me crazy! At least I can now turn if off at night!
What happens when you right click an image?
What browser are you using?
How necessary is it to shut down? I hardly ever shut my laptop down, I just close it.
You can't close the lid on a desktop though

Oh and another thing (sorry!) I switched to Firefox, but the cmputer seems to have both IE and Firefox and I am confused, it says something about Metro but when I click on metro it is not available, should I switch back to IE, would it be easier for me?

Well I do close the lid, btu my battery seems to run down very quickly so I thought if I actually closed it overnight, it would store more energy!
I use Firefox on Windows 8 without problem.

Did you buy the machine with Windows 8 (W8) pre-installed or have you updated your old machine?

When does it say 'Metro'? More info needed there.

You can download and use as many browsers as you like, it won't do any harm. Just ignore IE if you don't want to use it.
Metro was going to be the name for the W8 start screen interface but was dropped months; however, some people are a bit behind the times and persist in calling it that.

You can have as many browsers installed on you computer as you want. They are not exclusive.

What is saying something about Metro, how is it saying it, and what is the message?
p.s. I'm posting this using Firefox (or more specifically Waterfox) and have IE10 switched off so that it doesn't appear anywhere (Windows does let you remove it as a system feature).

How do I switch off IE where and how please!
It is best to close down at night. Not only does it save energy and prevent fire hazzards but it also collects updates automatically, keeping you on the latest versions.
