A neighbour slipped on ice a couple of winters ago, fell, and broke her wrist. Now that we seem to be facing the prospect of icy weather, any hints on how to get out and about without risking a visit to a fracture clinic?
take your time and the roads are generally safer to walk on than the footpaths! Also my local radio station is really annoying me at the minute, they are telling people to take cae on untreated roads, you need to take as much care on treated roads as you do on untreated!
these nifty shoe/boot crampons, they are not too expensive, fit over the shoe/boot, and should stop one falling and breaking something. Bought from sports shops, or on line, see if i can find the link someone posted for me.
Get a pair of boots with a good tread on the sole,or you can get them grip things that fit on the soles of your shoes, after all you wouldn't drive your car in bad weather on a set of "slicks". Not fool proof but it's a start.
Since some of you may remember that nibble fell on the ice in the road and fractured his kneecap last February, you can be sure that both of us will be taking extra care this winter!
Unless its absolutely essential, don't go out early in the morning or late in the evening. And whatever you do, don't go up the garden in your slippers thinking its only a quick "nip to the bin"!
I see no end of people out and about at 7.30am to buy their papers or a quarter of ham when they could really do without, or wait until lunchtime when it might have thawed a bit.
Also worth getting some rock salt before it all sells out and sprinkling it in front of you on untreated paths and pavements.
for anyone who is interested be warned of buying these rather cheap type overshoe anti slip soles as they don't work all that well.
gness, tartan trolley that's going some. cool perhaps not, but i use my blue coloured trolley now because i can't be arsed to lug all the damn shopping, and besides it won't be a good look sitting on the ice with tomato ketchup splattered around me, someone might think i'd hurt myself x x
Went to Leeds to visit a friend Em. We were all going shopping so I asked L. if she had a shopping trolley we could take. Well the looks I got from the girls! You'd think I'd suggested we shop naked.
I don't like shopping but when I do I'm blowed if I want to look like an orangutan. Trolley with panache!
snow boots - i swear by my rocket dog boots and they will get you anywhere in one piece. also, if it's really icy, sometimes it's better to 'skate' in your shoes rather than walk. look out some good boots - they make all the difference x
