The link [prev. qu] works perfectly, thanks all. But similar to a previous qu.

"… my shortcut icons on desktop have been overprinted by a basic windows Icon(the square one with three dots at top left and three colors in middle) The normal icons are there individually but underneath this icon. Does anyone know how to remove the windows icon so that I can get my desktop back? " the answer was to right click and run desktop clean up, not an option with Vista Basic. Any other ideas, please? I can live with it; but would like to change them if poss. Thanks

sorry, i haven't clicked on wrong thread.

Dave.
I am confused by Dave's postings in this thread.

Anyway, I am operating on Vista Basic and am wondering what happens if you right click your desktop and then click 'Refresh'.

Ron.
vivandron, there was a blatant advertising thread this morning and whilst half asleep with manflu i reported it and put reported on this thread, but never reported this question, just put "reported" on it.

Thanks webbo3 & factor 30 for having clarified matters.

Now back to the OP. Can either of you chaps help kia cat.

I am waiting to hear how he gets on with refreshing his desktop because I am now thinking that it could be a 'nasty' which has got past any AV which is installed and a run through with malwarebytes is now necessary.

Ron [and Viv] no change I'm afraid. am running Malwarebytes to see if anything's slipped past AVG. Will let you know the outcome. Thanks all

Hi all. Malawarebytes found 4 adaware files that AVG hadn't. Apart from that nothing untoward. I'm hoping the screen shot will be here: http://img819.imagesh...printiconsnov2012.jpg
and that makes it clearer.
Thanks kia cat for your up-date.

Adaware is an Anti Virus Programme which has infiltrated your computer and no doubt has been conflicting with AVG. The worst thing one can have are two AV programmes which can cause all sorts of problems.

Even if you have now removed a number of Adaware file it is possible that the AV programme is still hidden in your computer. This is where you need to check 'Programmes and Features' in your Control Panel.
