Laptop and PC connected to same router

I have a new laptop and router. I want to keep my PC, can I connect it to the router via an ethernet cable as well as the laptop connected wirelessly? I have one phone line so have to have the phone and Sky connected also. If so can I transfer stuff from my PC to the laptop easily? Any help would be gratefully received.

Laptop on wireless & PC on ethernet is a definite yes. if the PC & Laptop are both on the same network, then you should be able to transfer data from one to the other through that network.
Depends on the router. If its wireless then you may need to get a USB dongle for your pc but they are fairly cheap.
"If its wireless then you may need to get a USB dongle for your pc"
Not true.
Wireless routers have a wireless capability in addition to (usually) 4 wired ports.
The Phone and Sky TV are irrelevant. They act independently of the Computer connections despite using the same wires.
Even if one computer is wired and the other is wireless they should be able to see each other through the Router. It always helps to know what Operating System you are running on each your computers. I'd like to propose a solution but there is nowhere near enough information about the computers
and their Opeartiing Systems in this thread.
First reaction is to "map a drive" (from Client to Server).

Thanks for your answers. Methyl, what further info do you need? and how do I 'map a drive'? In easy language, please!
You don't need to map a drive. What you need to do is:
1) Ensure that both machines are members of the same workgroup.
2) At machine A:
3) right-click a folder and choose Sharing And Security
4) Check the box "Share this folder on the newtwork"
5) Optionally, check the box "Allow network users to change my files.
6)Repeat for any other folders that you want to share on this machine.

7) At machine B:
Repeat steps 3- 6 as required

How you access the files will depend on the Operating system of the machine that you want to access them from. You haven't told us what Operating system is on either of the machines.

Thank you all for your replies. I have managed to set up both laptop and PC and am so proud of myself!
