On the iPad, is it possible to switch between Apps without going back to the main screen and going back into the other App, and then going back to the main screen and going back into the first App, etc?

Yes, if you use three fingers, and swipe / push up from the bottom of the screen, this will bring up a list of all what you have open, you can toggle from here without having to go back into the main screen again.......hope this helps!

Maybe I need to practice. I can't seem to make that work.

Thank god, I've been trying it and it's not working for me either.
Just settle three fingers quite firmly on the bottom of the screen, and push up like you would wtih two fingers to close (same pressure), this should open up everything you are using at the bottom.
I have problems doing this as well.

Still can't do it.
Works for me, thanks.
Which Ipad do you have? I haver the new one, this maybe isn't available on older models?
You have to make sure multitasking gestures is switched on, mine was but I still can't do it.
It works from home screen but not while I'm in Safari (which I don't usually use anyway)
I have to do it with 4 fingers on the ipad2. Took a bit of practice.
Have just managed it with 4 fingers!

Which iPad? I don't know. I got it from the Apple shop in town a few days ago. It's whatever the current one is called.
If you're having trouble swiping, then double-clicking the button has the same effect...

Yay ... thanks, sfby ... x
I have i pad two and cando it
Done it, first time with 4 fingers.
Yep, double-clicking the home button is the easiest way.

Another handy hint: once you've double-clicked and can see all the running apps, click and hold one of the apps and after a few seconds "close" (-) buttons will appear on all of the running app icons, allowing you to quit the ones you don't want to run any more.
