I have Microsoft Security Essentials on my laptop and have a pop asking me if I want to install a Java Update as well, should I do this, do I need it?

Lots of web sites use java script, which is a very different thing and is embedded into browsers, There's a good chance java isn't needed on most peoples computers, but if you are going to keep it then yes, update it.
