Sony atrac music player software

I have a Sony music player that uses sonicstage software and atrac format. Can it be changed to use mp3 format so I can just drag and drop my mp3 files onto it - or is it obsolete?

The latter. It's why the early sony players never really caught on.

As so often - Sony had the better hardware and encoding system, but were driven out by an aggressively marketed, inferior product ... (mind you sonicstage itself was pants)
