missing text messages - yet phone claims its full...?

i have a black curve 8520

most of my text messages have disappeared a few days ago.... and i have it set to never delete them... so no idea why or where

however, just before just as a message arrived a notice came up telling me my inbox was full and i should delete some texts!

when i looked in my inbox there are only about 20 messages left.. so where are they all?

i am assuming they have been moved somewhere rather than been deleted - as why would it be saying its full?

they are not in my saved messages folder - so any ideas where they have gone?

i recently tested a different sim card in it - but it wasnt a working sim... but could that be the reason?

Could be; I tested a different sim in my old phone and it deleted all the messages that were saved to the phone; even ones that I'd 'locked'. Think the phone was a Motorola, or maybe a Samsung, was ages ago!
