Retrieving a mobile number.

I have had my phone stolen. Can I get my 02 number transfered to another chip?
It seems the person who stole it has obviously ditched the chip, as all I am getting is the answer machine! Its a PAYG by the way.
Many thanks in advance.

Contact O2 - they should be able to help - but you might need proof that its your number. Perhaps if you have top up receipts or have registered the number with them.
