Book Reader

Is there any way of using my lap-top as a book reader - "Kindle" fashion? If not can any model of "K" be connected to the internet and my gmail account? Could an I-Pad be used for these three applications?

On coming to read a new book on my Kobo E-Reader,a box came up asking if i wanted to connect to an external browser.I did not want this but cannot read the book as it keeps popping up.??????
