Setting up a distribution list for texting on an iPhone

Up until a few months ago, I had always had a Nokia mobile phone. One thing I liked about it was that I could set up a "distribution group" for people that I regularly sent (say) jokes to.

I now have an iPhone4 and was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is possible to set up a "distribution list" on it, please?
