If you've got a Maplins store nearby then this might fit the bill.

Many Thanks Alice, but do you know if it works, have you used one yourself?
If the heads and pinch-wheel are easily accessible, use alcohol on a cotton-bud. You will be surprised at the crud that comes off.
Woodelf, I haven't used that exact model but similar used to work well, the manual method is most thorough but I believe you have visual problems, correct? A lint free cloth is better in the long run than the cotton bud as they can shed fibres if you do go that route.

The link below is to the doc on the RNIB site. It recommends a cleaner similar to the one in SlackAlice's post.

I've always used methylated spirit (sparingly) on a clean cotton bud - it works wonders.
I've not used the one I linked to but have used similar kits with no problems before.
Swabbing with gin or vodka alwqays did it for me.

Many Thanks guys and yes Fitzer, I do have, but I think I might try the manual method...no answers removed necessary AB Editor...smile...and was thinking of dipping my hanky into my whisky and trying that out, but Many Thanks for all the links too!
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), or rubbing alcohol as it's called in the USA, is most commonly used for this purpose in audio servicing workshops. The tape type of cleaners collect the crud but it's gets progressively more difficult to remove from the tape over time.

Buy 100ml of IPA off ebay:

100ml of IPA is really cheap and should last you for years. Just be sure to apply it with a lint-free type of cloth rather than a cotton bud and keep it away from children and heat sources.
